Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new year of music at Idyllwild School! My name is Mr. Beuche and I am the Music
Teacher at Idyllwild School. I am pleased to say that we have many course offerings for your child to
study music, and I want to encourage you to take advantage of the Music Program at Idyllwild School.
Nearly everyone enjoys music to one degree or another, and it is often considered merely a “fun
activity to try”. However, many are unaware of the various cognitive benefits that music education
offers. These include increased academic achievement, improved linguistic skills, and higher scores on
standardized tests. In fact, the benefits of music education are too numerous to list here! See this
comprehensive list. In short, it will benefit your child immensely to participate in music education.
We are also fortunate to have many instruments available to loan from our school free of charge. This
is highly unusual in our district, and in music education in general. I highly encourage you to take
advantage of this opportunity and provide your child with a high-quality music education for free!
Course Offerings & Schedule
There are many ways for your child to participate in music at Idyllwild School. The following music
courses are offered:
After School Rock Band - 3:00-4:00pm on Mondays & Tuesdays
Is your child an aspiring rock star? Rock Band is the class for them! We offer instruction in guitar,
electric bass, keyboard/piano, and voice. Come rock out with us! All ages welcome!
After School Concert Choir - 3:00-4:00pm on Thursdays & Fridays
Does your child love to sing? Concert Choir will give them the opportunity to add their voice to a
chorus of our students singing in beautiful harmony. Students in grades 3-8 are welcome!
4-8 Concert Band
What would a parade, festival, or inauguration be without a Concert Band? Concert Band gives your
child the opportunity to study woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone), brass (trumpet, trombone,
baritone, tuba), and percussion instruments (snare, bass drum, vibraphone, marimba). This is a
pull-out class which occurs during the school day for 4th/5th, and an elective for Idyllwild Middle
School. Instruments are available to loan from our school free of charge.
4-8 String Orchestra
Strings have a beautiful, cohesive sound which are a crucial part of most film scores and classical
music. Can you imagine Star Wars without the string parts? This is a pull-out class which occurs during
the school day for 4th/5th and an elective for Idyllwild Middle School. We have violins, violas, cellos,
and double basses available to loan free of charge.
Pre-3 General Music
All Pre-3 students attend General Music once a week for 30-45 minutes. Your child will learn music
fundamentals such as keeping a steady beat, singing in tune, performing rhythms, playing classroom
instruments, and learning to read music notation. The skills they develop in general music class will
help them with their academics and if they choose to pursue a musical instrument.
K-3 Instrumental Lessons
Your child has the option to study a musical instrument in group lessons once a week during recess.
There are currently several students in 1st through 3rd grade studying flute or violin. Parents must
provide an instrument for the student to participate in this program.
It brings me great joy to work at a school that places such a great emphasis on music and the arts.
Please encourage your child to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the Music Program
at Idyllwild School. Thank you for your time!
Wishing you a wonderful school year,
